The house's history The House Tomás Lourenço was built in the ends of the XIX century, at full time of the revolution of the communication ways, especially the railroad transport. Situated in the center of the population of Colmeal da Torre and related to agriculture, since soon its structure showed the necessary conditions to this activity - storage of products and farm implements. Its proprietor, Tomás Lourenço, directed the agricultural exploration of the 50 involving farms, also yielding some of its lands to the exploration of tin in the fifties. The support that always gave to needed people made Tomás Lourenço one of the most charismatic persons of the population, making it become the first President of the then created Parish of Colmeal da Torre, at 1950. For the record remains also the support that he gave to the emergent Jewish community in the region, when giving shelter in a house of his to Samuel Schwarz, studious and founder of the Jewish Community of Belmonte. |
